This Popular Indonesian National Park Is Set to Close in 2025
Plans are underway to close Komodo National Park throughout the year to help preserve its ecosystems.
Visitors planning a holiday to Indonesia who are dreaming of exploring the magical landscapes of Komodo National Park may have to plan further ahead, after it was announced that the island will implement periodic closures in 2025. which are expected to begin midway through the year,
Komodo is home to rare and unusual wildlife, such as the eponymous Komodo Dragon, which upcoming closures hope to protect from damage by over-tourism.
Although firm details have yet to be announced, the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority Board emphasised the importance of sustainability and preserving the park, saying that the sporadic closures will help limit the flow of tourists. Despite the announcement suggesting the plans will still allow tourists to visit the park in more limited numbers, the region’s growing popularity has put pressure on the island’s environment and wildlife in recent years.
For those searching for similar alternatives, the government is keen to diversify tourism in the area, promoting other attractions on Flores Island, such as Mount Kelimutu in the spectacular Kelimutu National Park. Snorkelling, swimming and diving are also just as impressive as its animal residents, with the waters in the Lesser Sunda Islands being home to whales, turtles and manta rays.
